The Importance of Learning and Development.

Anyone following Quorum on social media will see the many exam and course passes that we celebrate on a frequent basis.

Learning is a key part of an employee’s working life with Quorum, in any role and at all levels, and we treat training and development as part of our day-to-day activities and support lifelong learning for our employees. We invest heavily in training and certification and send more employees to technology conferences (per employee) than any other Microsoft partner in the country.

So why is learning so important at Quorum?

Company Culture

We want to foster a culture where everyone can learn new things, and where it’s ok to get things wrong. By supporting continuous learning, we can improve innovation, processes, and accomplish new things.

“At Quorum, we don’t believe in avoiding failure at all costs, culturally it’s better to encourage employees to try, even if they might fail. Experience is often the best teacher.”
Andy Watson

Managing Director

Continuous learning nurtures a culture of innovation and creativity within our teams. When you’re encouraged to explore new ideas, learn from failures, and seek out diverse perspectives, you’re more likely to ‘think outside the box’ and propose innovative solutions.

This ties very closely with our company values.

Tech is constantly evolving

As a technology company, to succeed, we must stay up-to-date with the rapidly changing technology landscape, market trends, and customer requirements. This requires ongoing training and development for employees.

This culture of continuous learning fuels a cycle of innovation, driving our growth and competitiveness. Quorum then benefits from having an extremely skilled and knowledgeable workforce and our clients can be confident that they are working with the industry’s best minds.

The best possible workforce

We’ve previously shared how Quorum prefers to hire for ‘fit’ (read here) rather than imposing strict constraints on potential candidates or ruling people out for arbitrary requirements.

By giving all employees the opportunity to learn and grow, we develop a more engaged and invested workforce. This leads to higher levels of job satisfaction and we’re proud of our low employee turnover rates.

Employee learning also leads to improved productivity and efficiency. When employees have the skills and knowledge they need to do their jobs effectively, they are able to work ‘smarter’ and make better use of their time.

“Quorum’s strategy to recruit passionate people who have the right attitude and drive to learn, over the raw technical requirements for the role, has built an incredible company.  I can honestly say over my almost 20 years in IT, I’ve never worked with such a high concentration of brilliant and passionate people who are as helpful as they are knowledgeable.”

Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration

Learning is not limited to individual employees at Quorum; it is also ingrained in our collaborative work environment. Studies worldwide have shown that knowledge sharing initiatives, encouraged by a culture of learning and collaboration, can naturally boost overall employee productivity. (Source).

We’re proud to have such a rich culture of knowledge sharing and we encourage our employees to exchange ideas, expertise, and best practices. This is important, for example, in our helpdesk team who are constantly working on the best ways to solve our customer’s issues or in our development or data teams who are always looking to build innovative and creative solutions.

We also encourage our employees to attend engaging events like speaker sessions and Meetups to garner knowledge from outside of the company.
